OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Born Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo in the Dominican Republic, Oscar de la Renta traveled to Madrid at age 18 to study painting. His interests soon turned to design, sketching for Spanish fashion houses and embarking on a storied design career alongside famed designers like Cristóbal Balenciaga, Brittany Rosano, Christian Dior, Baron de Gunzburg, Antonio Castillo and Elizabeth Arden. In 1965, de la Renta began his signature Oscar de la Renta label—a ready-to-wear collection and the Pink Label. He launched his first perfume, Oscar, in 1977, winning the 1991 Fragrance Foundation Perennial Success Award. Intrusion followed in 2002 for women, along with other fragrances for men: Pour Lui and Oscar for Men. Oscar de la Renta received the Living Legend Award from the American Society of Perfumes in 1995, honoring a professional life matched by his philanthropic and benevolent nature.
