When news broke this week that L’Oreal was developing a pill to prevent grey hair, it made headlines around the world. But scientists say the pill, which has not yet been created, produces more questions than answers.

Bruno Bernard, head of the Hair Care, Quality and Color team at L’Oreal, first spoke about the cosmetic company’s research, telling the Daily Mail the pill will be based on a fruit extract that mimics an enzyme called TRP-2, which isn’t present in hair follicles.

TRP-2 helps make pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. In theory, the presence of TRP-2 could prevent hair from going gray.

Ideally you would take [the pill] for your whole life, but realistically we’d encourage people to start using it before their hair goes grey because we don’t think it can reverse the process once it has started,” he told the UK paper. “We have a watertight proof of concept, and we think it will have a market among men as well as women.

1. Nexxus Diametress Luscious Hair Thickening Shampoo and Sublime Volume Luscious Bodifying Conditioner ($14 shampoo, $15 conditioner;)

Nexxus’s shampoo and conditioner increased the diameter of hair more than any other brand we tested, so this set should add volume to almost any style. Several consumers noted that they liked the volume and body of their hair after using these products, which also made tresses softer, thicker, and more manageable. Most agreed that these products truly made their hair look thicker, though a few worried that their fuller hairstyles had a bit more frizz and flyaways.

2. Best Manageability
Bumble and bumble Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner ($21 shampoo, $22 conditioner; salons)

The thickening duo from Bumble and bumble received the highest score from testers for making hair more manageable. Testers also rated this shampoo and conditioner set highly for increasing the smoothness, softness, and overall healthy appearance of their hair. They raved that Bumble and bumble’s products banished limp locks — one panelist even had a co-worker ask if she’d changed her style because her hair was so notably different. Take note: While these products thickened blond hair well in our labs, they did not boost the diameter of gray hairs much.

3. Nice Scent
Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner ($11.50 shampoo, $12.50 conditioner; salons)

This hair-care duo received one of the highest scores from our testers for its lemon-sage scent. Further, Paul Mitchell’s shampoo and conditioner set earned excellent marks in the lab for its ability to thicken blond hair. Though these products weren’t able to thicken gray hairs as well, they still got great reviews from our consumers: One liked how her hair really felt clean, while another commented that these products didn’t weigh her hair down.

Did you know the human body requires fat in order to be able to properly process and absorb vitamins and nutrients? Yes, it’s true.

Whether you get your vitamins from supplements or eat carefully to get nutrients from your daily food supply, if you live on only fat free or very low fat meals, your hair will definitely start to suffer.

The lack of fat can also have a negative impact on skin and nails.

Eat Healthy Fat For Lush Hair

Hair utilizes fat stored in the body to thicken and develop luster or shine. Does this mean you should go out and do fat laden meals to get a blinding shine for your tresses?

No, the key according to nutritional experts is to eat a well balanced meal with some healthy fats. Healthy fats which are also known as unsaturated fats include avocadoes, black and green olives and nut butters such as almond, cashew, peanut butter, sesame and sunflower seed.

Other great shine and hair healthy foods include macadamias, hazelnuts, pecan, almond, cashews, pistachios, brazil nuts, peanuts, pine nuts and walnuts. Seeds are also great for thick lush tresses, especially sesame, pumpkin, ground flaxseed and sunflower seeds.

Nutritional experts say the best foods of the unsaturated fat family are albacore tuna, salmon and extra virgin olive oil.

Fats which won’t help grow lush healthy tresses include saturated and trans fats.

Saturated fats include those found in meat and other animal products. Trans fats are found in foods with labels such as “hydrogenated” or partially hydrogenated”.

Lean Protein Helps Hair Grow

Nutritionists and trichologists preach the hair growing gospel of lean protein. Since human hair is almost 100% protein, it needs a constant supply every day to keep it growing.

When protein isn’t provided in adequate supply, hair growth will stall and possibly falter. In fact, without the proper supply of protein, hair may start to thin and may even start to shed.

Protein can alo be found in some of our favorite shampoo’s conditioners and hair masques. We recommend;

When changing your hair color, the goal is to keep all of the dye in your hair without staining your hands, face and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, this easier said than done because sometimes your glove(s) will rip or the dye will splatter, leaving you with unwanted messes. And as many people can attest to, scrubbing dye out isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. Furthermore, there are times where the color won’t turn out the way you wanted, and in order to fix the mistake, you’ll have to remove the dye from your hair and start all over.

Whether you’re trying to get dye out of your hair or off of the skin, it will take some hard work. But hopefully, the following tips for removing dye from your hair and skin will drastically cut down on this work.

Removing Dye from Hair

There are several different methods for removing dye from your hair, and the method often depends on the details of the situation. To expand on this point, you should go for the less harsh methods in the beginning, and step things up a notch if this doesn’t work.

One of the simplest ways to remove dye is by using some dandruff shampoo mixed with baking soda; when you do this, make sure the hair is wet before applying the mixture. Assuming you perform this treatment several times throughout the week, you should be able to remove the dye.

For those who’ve used a demi-permanent color to darken their hair, a good natural treatment is to make a water and Vitamin C solution; when mixed right, it should turn into a paste. The next step involves putting the paste into your hair and leaving it sit for an hour or so. Assuming you do this within a couple of days after your dye job, this should take most (if not all) of the color out.

If you don’t mind spending money to remove dye from your hair, you can purchase a hair color remover. These products remove the dye through chemicals, and all you need to do to use them is follow the instructions. Some of the most popular brands of hair color removers are Jheri Redding Color Fix, Jerome Rusell’s Punky Off, Color Oops Hair Color Remover, L’Oreal Color Zap and Roux Clean Touch.

Preventing Hair Dye Stains and Problem

You can save yourself a lot of scrubbing and wasted time by taking precautions when dying your hair. For one thing, you can use baby oil or petroleum jelly along your hairline (not on your hairline) to keep the dye from sticking to your skin. Another big part of preventing hair dye mishaps is covering the area around you with towels. So if you are dying your hair in the bathroom, make sure to cover the floor and any nearby counters with towels.

Just by doing small things such as covering hard surfaces with towels or putting baby oil below your hairline, you can avoid the trouble that comes with having to scrub or wash out hair dye after the fact.

• Use a gentle shampoo. Leave shampoo on the scalp for five minutes before rinsing!

• Tip: the best shampoos for oily hair contain a detergent, such as ammonium or sodium lauryl sulfate. (These detergents are quite drying to hair.)

• Instead of daily try shampooing every second day.

• Rinse on the off day. Rinse with cool water to close the pores of the scalp.

• Between washes use hair fresheners to avoid bad smelling hair.

• Try to avoid conditioner at the roots and scalp, apply in the middle or on the ends. Apply it gently with your fingertips.

• Avoid brushing your hair too often or too vigorously, since brushing can help spreading oil from your roots to the ends of your hair. We recommend the Mason Pearson Brushes to stimulate the scalp instead.

• Have the hair colored or permanently waved. Color treated hair has enlarged strands and this can help reduce the oil from spreading through your hair.

• Avoid frequently touching your hair.

Ok, so now you’ve got a nice sun-kissed glow on your face, what about the snow white skin on the rest of your body. Try a self-tanner. A self-tanner is a cream or foam that gives your skin a brown tint without the harmful rays of the sun. Not all self-tanning creams are good though.

Depending on your skin coloring and the quality of the product, you may end up looking more like a carrot than a beach bunny. Ask someone working in cosmetics or someone you know if the product made their skin orangy or streaky. If the product is really cheap, leave it on the shelf unless you like the orange look. A good one to try is Clarins Self Tanning Milk SPF 6 Sunless Tanner which comes with SPF. SPF6 offers mild protection against the sun. Instantly softens your skin while moisturizing. Provides a natural-looking tan in one or two hours. Lightweight texture ensures easy absorption.

So next time you’re thinking about baking your skin in the sun, why not get your sun from a powder or a bottle? if you’ve ever used a self-tanner or bronzing powder and how it worked for ya. Best for Sensitive Skin- Sunless tanning lotions do not include any irritants and are perfect for the sensitive skin. You have lots of choices to choose an ideal product for your skin type.
